Why You Should Leave Water Heater Replacement To The Pros | Normal, IL

If your water heater has been making strange noises, leaking, or simply not providing the amount of hot water it used to, it might be time to consider replacing it. Though it can be tempting to try and replace the water heater yourself, it is essential to remember that water heater replacement should be left to the pros. With a professional plumbing company, you can be sure your new heater will be installed correctly. Furthermore, they will be able to help you select a heater that is best suited to your needs and the size of your home. Investing in professional water heater replacement is the best way to ensure your home’s safety and avoid making any mistakes like those listed below.

Risks of Installing Your Water Heater Yourself

Picking the Wrong Size Heater

Before your new water heater has even heated a single gallon of water, it may already be doomed to fail. When it’s time for a water heater replacement, it’s easy to make the mistake of buying a tank that’s too small or too big for your needs. Water heater tanks can be anywhere from 30 to 80 gallons in capacity. The number of people living in your home and the average daily demand for hot water will determine the optimal heater size for your home.

Picking a tank that is too small can lead to constant cold showers. However, if your water heater tank is too big, you’ll waste energy heating more water than your family needs. A plumbing company can help you choose the correct size heater and install it.

Installing the Heater in the Wrong Place

The location of your water heater should be carefully considered for safety and practical reasons. Depending on local regulations, there may be prohibited or restricted areas for water heater installation, such as storage closets, attics, and beneath floors. When replacing an old water heater, you cannot assume that the same placement would suffice because newer versions are better insulated and wider. It’s better to leave the replacement to a professional plumbing service that understands the optimal location for your heater.

Not Putting a Drain Pan Under the Tank

In the event of overheating or pressure buildup, the water heater must be able to release the excess water. To accomplish this, a drain pan and drain line must be installed. A leaky discharge from a water heater can cause severe damage to your home, so installing a properly sized drain pan under the tank is essential.

Additionally, if water damage is not discovered quickly, it can spread and lead to issues like mold and mildew. The pan needs to be sturdy, at least 2 inches wider than the heater’s diameter, and at least 1.5 inches tall.

If you want to avoid the hassle of faulty drain pan installation, it’s best to choose a professional plumbing company like Covenant Plumbing.

Wrongly Installing the Pressure Relief Valve

The water heater’s pressure relief valve regulates the unit’s internal pressure and temperature. So, what happens if it isn’t installed correctly? Too much pressure or heat could cause the water heater to explode. The water tank will spray boiling water on anyone and anything within a few feet of it.

Proper installation is critical to the safety and lifespan of your water heater. The valve must be installed on the side of the tank, 6 inches off the ground, so it can open automatically if the pressure inside the tank becomes too high. This task is best left to a water heater replacement service like Covenant Plumbing.

Incompatible Connections

Numerous homeowners in Normal, IL underestimate the significance of metal water heater connectors. When two pipes of different diameters are joined together, even a slight gap in size can lead to a leak and hasten the corrosion process. This can cause leaks, costly repairs, and a shortened lifespan for your water heater.

One of the most efficient methods of evading this issue is to use connectors made of compatible metals. For instance, copper or brass fittings are preferable when joining copper pipes. The best way to avoid the hassle and extend the lifespan of your new heater is to hire a water heater replacement service like Covenant Plumbing.

Failure to Follow Instructions Carefully

Water heater replacement is not an easy task. In addition to requiring a lot of attention to detail and concentration, many tools and equipment are required to complete the installation process safely. Missing (or partially completing) a step in the installation process, even by accident, might result in a defective water heater with the potential to fail or even flood your home. It may be difficult for your home’s structural integrity to recover after such an incident, so it’s best to leave the replacement to the experts.

Discounting the Significance of Energy Efficiency Ratings

Most homeowners don’t realize that water heaters account for almost 20% of their total energy consumption. Since this is the case, picking an energy-efficient model is crucial. A higher rating may come at a greater initial cost, but it will save you money in the long run. For example, tankless water heaters only heat water when it’s being used, drastically cutting down on energy wastage and monthly energy costs.

On the other hand, selecting a less efficient unit may save you money initially, but it will cost you more in the long run due to increased energy use. When deciding between two similar units, it’s essential to consider the long-term benefits of the more efficient one, even if the cheaper one is more appealing in the short term. Consult a water heater replacement professional in Normal, IL for advice on energy-efficiency ratings and selecting the ideal model for your home.

Not Following Local Codes

Many homeowners who attempt DIY projects incorrectly assume they do not need permits or adhere to building codes. These procedures have been put in place for a reason, and failing to follow them could have serious consequences. A qualified plumber will ensure that your water heater is installed according to building codes.

Resolving Water Heater Thermal Expansion Tank Problems With A Plumber Near Me | Bloomington, IL

Expansion tanks are a protective measure that handles water thermal expansion. Whenever the pressure in the water rises uncontrollably, some of it escapes into the thermal expansion tanks. This protects the supply pipe joints and valves in your plumbing fixtures from damage. It also ensures that the water heater tank doesn’t explode. Fortunately, you can protect your expansion tanks and water heater by having a plumber near me in Bloomington, IL come for routine inspection and maintenance. But what are the common issues with a water heater thermal expansion that a professional plumber can resolve?

Common Thermal Expansion Tank Problems

Venting Water

If the expansion tank has served your home for a long time, it might start showing signs of wear and tear. This might result in the tank leaking water. Hence, you must closely monitor the thermal expansion tank to determine where the leak originates. A routine inspection by a plumber near me can make this process easier. Tightening the fitting if the leak is from the pipe at the top of the thermal expansion tank. Although you can use a wrench to tighten the pipe, you could over tighten it. For this reason, it is recommended that if you see the thermal expansion tank venting water, you call a plumber near me and have them properly tighten the pipe and apply some sealing to ensure that water doesn’t leak. They also will tell you whether it is time to replace the expansion tank.

Air Blockage

Your thermal expansion tank has been designed as an air handler for your hot water plumbing system. Although air is necessary for any plumbing system, it may be trapped, resulting in a hydronic airlock. This issue could result in water not flowing via the heater or pipes, meaning that you should have it checked by a plumber near me. If you notice no water in the radiator, that could be experiencing an airlock. An expansion tank should prevent the air block from arising at all. If you realize that you have a hydronic airlock, that shows that your thermal expansion tank is not normally functioning. A plumber near me in Bloomington, IL will inspect the system and help you determine whether you need a repair or to replace the tank.

Your Tank Needs to Be Recharged

Water heater thermal expansion tanks are of two types. The older versions are made from steel. These tanks normally combine water and air within to contain the excessive pressure from the water heater. Unfortunately, the water within may absorb some small quantities of air. Whenever such happens, the thermal expansion tanks can lose their pressure. Recharging is the solution to this water/air ratio problem. Whenever you notice such a problem, you should have a plumber near me recharge the expansion tank. Unfortunately, some homeowners choose to recharge the tank themselves. Adding more water than necessary will result in overcharge problems.

Condensation

The other sign that the expansion tank is faulty is condensation on its surface. Have you noticed an accumulation of condensation in the thermal expansion tank? That problem should be investigated further by a plumber near me. The condensation on the thermal expansion tank might result in rusting. It also might make the water start dripping over the electric wires, causing short circuits. If the condensation problems aren’t immediately addressed, there will be water puddles below the tank. Because determining the reason for condensation is difficult, a plumber should inspect the expansion tank.

Not Having Sufficient Air in Its Diaphragm Tank

Newer thermal expansion tanks use the rubber diaphragm system. This diaphragm is used for separating water and air. The expansion of the diaphragm doesn’t lose any pressure as the water absorbs the air. The most frequent issue with a diaphragm expansion tank is that the valve occasionally leaks air pressure. When this happens, the tank needs to have more air added to it. Simple steps must be taken to introduce air to the tank. All you need to do is use an air compressor or a bicycle tire pump to add air to the tank. The tank must then be pumped up to 12 PSI. The likelihood that the tank won’t maintain air pressure after being overfilled with water or after the repair is finished is very high. In that situation, the entire diaphragm needs to be replaced. A plumber near me in Bloomington, IL can inform you whether a minor repair will suffice or if you have to replace the entire diaphragm.

How Backflows Impact Thermal Expansion

If you install a backflow check valve or backflow preventer to your cold water line, the likelihood of thermal expansion will rise. Water flows unidirectionally from the supply unit via the meter to the outlets at your home tap, as is well known. Even though water flows in one direction, there are some situations where the flow direction is reversed. The reversal of water’s direction of flow is called backflow. It arises when there is a back-siphonage or a backflow condition in the water supply line.

The backflow prevention device helps prevent hot water from leaving the water heater through a pipe meant to carry cold water.

Backsiphonage is the unintended change in the water’s flow direction caused by the vacuum’s strong suction. A vacuum can occur when the distribution system is shut down, when the plumbing fails, or when the system loses pressure due to a large water withdrawal. When the pressure falls below atmospheric pressure, the pipe system experiences a vacuum, which leads to a back-siphonage. Backpressure can happen when a source pressure, like thermal expansion, creates much more pressure than the distribution system supplies. The extra pressure may push water backward and in the other direction. A plumber near me recommends that you don’t install a backflow preventer near the water heater.

Ideally, you only need to choose one plumber and after an initial visit, you can get your problem fixed and not worry about your plumbing system for a lot of time. Best proactive action is the best way to keep your plumbing system working smoothly and avoid repair phone calls.

You might even find that asking people for their suggestions for a plumber near me in my region is the best way to make new friends and acquaintances in the area. Therefore one of the best ways to start is by talking to your neighbors and your coworkers. Most people love to give advice and their two cents about different plumbing services that they have used. You may have to listen to a few stories about people’s plumbing problems but in exchange, you’ll get some honest feedback about who you should and should not trust. You might even get some ideas about what you can do in the future to avoid some of the plumbing issues you’re facing now.

Of course, you need to remember to keep an open mind and listen thoroughly through the stories because everybody has their own subjective opinions on things that might not quite match yours. Therefore you need to do some independent research outside of the suggestions you get just to make sure that you end up finding a plumber near me in town that is the right choice for your problem and your home. When it comes to working with tradespeople, everyone has their own preferences and their own budget so you need to keep these things in mind while you’re searching for a plumber near me in town. What you may like may not be the same as your neighbor.

You can use the suggestions of others however as a jumping-off point so that you get a few names that you can investigate a little bit more closely. Sump Pump Service FAQs | Bloomington, IL

Bloomington, IL, receives a fair amount of rain every year. When storms strike, water can rush into the basement, leading to costly, messy flood damage. Fortunately, you can greatly decrease your risk of ending up with water in your basement with a sump pump. Read on for answers to your questions about sump pump services.

What Is a Sump Pump?

sump pump is a machine that transfers water out of your basement. The pump gets its name from its installation location, called a sump or basin. Once the pump is installed, it detects increases in water pressure. Once the pressure reaches a certain level, the pump begins to pump out the water, pushing it through a line called an effluent that leads to a safe drainage area.

Where Does Water from a Sump Pump Go?

The basin for a sump pump is usually placed below the surface of the basement floor, and the drainage area is generally located 10 to 20 feet from a house’s foundation. Depending on where you live, there may be rules regarding where you can install a sump pump and where the drainage area must be positioned. A plumber experienced in providing sump pump services can help to ensure that you comply with local laws and regulations.

What Types of Sump Pumps Are Available?

There are two main types of sump pumps:

  • Submersible sump pumps have a motor and a pump in one unit and are completely submerged within the basin. The water in the basin acts as an insulator, reducing the amount of noise that the pump produces. Although they are highly effective, they may not last as long as some other pumps due to their full submersion. This may also mean an increased need for maintenance sump pump services.
  • Pedestal sump pumps have a separate motor that goes on a pedestal on top of the basin, while the pump is located inside the sump. A hose connects the two pieces. This design keeps the motor out of the water, helping to extend its life and simplify maintenance. On the downside, the motor can be noisy.

How Do I Know Which Type of Sump Pump Is Right for Me?

When shopping for a sump pump, you’ll need to consider the horsepower, which tells you how much overall power the pump has. Homes in areas of Bloomington, IL, that are considered a high risk for flooding will require a more powerful pump. You also need to ensure that you don’t purchase a pump too powerful for your needs. Doing so could cause the pump to turn on and off repeatedly, resulting in an increased need for maintenance. A plumber knowledgeable about sump pump services can provide you with personalized advice regarding which model is best for your home.

What Powers a Sump Pump?

Sump pumps use electricity as their main source of power. Unfortunately, this means that if a blackout occurs during a storm, a standard sump pump will fail. To address this problem, manufacturers offer units that have backup power either from a battery or water power.

What Is a Switch System?

A switch system is what allows a sump pump to turn on and off. There are many types available:

  • Pressure switches kick in when water pressure increases during flooding and turn the unit off when the water pressure decreases.
  • Float switches float on the surface of the water and respond to increases in water level.
  • Diaphragm switches become concave when water pressure increases and flatten out as it decreases.
  • Electronic switches use electronic sensors to measure water pressure.

Each switch type has its own advantages and disadvantages. A professional plumber can explain them to you during a sump pump services consultation.

Do I Need to Have a Sump Pump?

If you have a basement, installing a sump pump is a good idea. Flooding doesn’t just cause damage to property. The increase in moisture can give rise to mold that can pose serious health risks and worsen problems like allergies and asthma. By removing excess water, sump pumps help prevent dampness in basements to fight mold growth.

How Long Does a Sump Pump Last?

Like any machine, sump pumps wear out over time. Most sump pumps last between 7 and 10 years. Human error can result in pumps running too much. This can lead to excess wear and tear, making it important that you leave sump pump services like installation and maintenance to the pros.

What Are Some Signs That It’s Time to Replace My Sump Pump?

If you notice any of the following, contact a plumber for sump pump services:

  • Noise. If you are suddenly able to hear your sump pump run or the unit seems noisier, the motor or impeller may be wearing out. Normally, motors make a humming or droning sound. Rattling, clanging, and screeching noises are usually signs of a problem.
  • Excessive running. If your sump pump begins to run all the time despite weather conditions, it may be time for a replacement. The switch may also need to be fixed or replaced. In brand-new units, this is a good indication that the pump is not the right size for your home.
  • Unpleasant smells. When you give your basement a sniff, you should smell mildew or mold. The presence of these odors indicates that the sump pump is allowing moisture buildup.
  • Complete failure. If your unit doesn’t turn on during heavy rainfall, call an emergency plumber right away for sump pump services.

When Do You Call A Licensed Plumber For A Sump Pump Repair? | Normal, IL

Do you have a basement? You need to install a sump pump to prevent basement flooding. A sump pump is a device that’s usually submersible and it moves water away from your home, saving your house from catastrophic water damage. If you live in an area prone to getting storms, contact a plumber in Normal, IL today for a sump pump installation. If you have an efficient or malfunctioning sump pump, contact us for a sump pump repair.

Signs You Need to Get Your Unit Repaired

What are signs it’s time to call a plumber for a sump pump repair? Below are some issues you may encounter with your sump pump. Get in touch with us immediately for assistance:

Incorrect Installation

You know there are issues with installation when the sump pump either doesn’t work efficiently or doesn’t work at all. This is why we recommend hiring a licensed plumber only to install the unit and avoid problems. Otherwise, you may end up calling a plumber for a costly sump pump repair. And imagine if you don’t notice the problem right away and there’s a coming storm. When the sump pump malfunctions, you will end up with a flooded basement. If you’re planning to install a new unit, contact Covenant Plumbing so that our plumbers can help you install your new unit.

Power Failure

You don’t necessarily need sump pump repair when there’s a power failure. If there are issues with its electrical components, we suggest calling an electrician. Also, power outages are common during a storm so try to get backup batteries to ensure your sump pump still works even when there’s a power interruption.

We also recommend you invest in a surge protection device as power surges can also damage the unit. Get in touch with a professional today if you have problems with your sump pump; our plumbers can take care of repairs, installations or inspections.

Blocked Pumps and Drainage Parts

It’s important to properly maintain your sump pump to avoid costly sump pump repair or basement flooding. One of the most common issues you’ll have to encounter are clogged pumps. When they’re blocked, your unit won’t be able to extract the water from the sump pit. You’ll end up with a flooded basement if you don’t address the problem. Get in touch with a plumber immediately to help you correct it.

The discharge lines must also be inspected regularly to avoid clogging and other blockages or your unit can’t work properly. Check the exit points and make sure no dirt or rocks enter the sump pump system. Contact a plumber today for further assistance.

Defective Components

Your sump pump will work efficiently when all components are in working condition. This is why it’s important for homeowners to properly care for their units to avoid a costly sump pump repair that can cost you a fortune.

No Maintenance

All appliances need maintenance to avoid costly problems. For your sump pump, periodically check your unit for any signs of damage, or wear and tear. If you suspect a problem, contact a licensed plumber in Normal, IL immediately for either an inspection or sump pump repair.

When buying a new sump pump, it’s also important to get the right unit size. If your unit is too large and your basement needs a smaller unit, your sump pump will only work harder and may not be able to efficiently pump out the water. Eventually, this can burn out the unit and lead to costly repairs down the road. If you have questions about your sump pump, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a plumber for assistance. We’re more than happy to help.

Maintaining the Sump Pump

Proper maintenance is the key to avoiding a costly sump pump repair. Below are a few tips on how to maintain your sump pump:

Test the Sump Pump

Before a coming storm, the first thing you need to do is check your sump pump if it actually works. To test the unit, pour a bucket of water into the sump pit and wait for the float switch to turn on and pump the water out. If it doesn’t, we suggest calling a plumber right away for an inspection as there might be something wrong with the unit.

Check for Corrosion or Damage

Clean the sump pump regularly by removing the pump and disconnecting the discharge pipe. If you can’t remove the pump, there could be dirt or mold building up. Call a plumber for assistance. After disconnecting the pump, use a soft cloth or sponge to remove the dirt. When cleaning, carefully check it for any signs of damage. If your sump pump is several years old, check with a plumber if it’s time to get a new replacement.

Clean the Basin

To start cleaning, make sure to turn it off properly. Remove any debris or dirt from the sump basin. If you don’t know how to do this, check the manufacturer manual for instructions or contact a plumber near you for assistance.

Contact Covenant Plumbing

Do you need a sump pump repair and replacement? You can choose from three different types of sump pumps: pedestal pumps, the water-powered pump and battery-operated backup. The pedestal pump is more affordable but not recommended as they aren’t as reliable as the submersible device. One thing to remember when buying a new sump pump is to buy a unit with the right horsepower. Get in touch with one of our plumbers so we can assist you.

Water Heater Replacement: How Long Should My Water Heater Last? | Normal, IL

A functional water heater is an investment that typically malfunctions from time to time. Due to the importance of a water heater, experts typically prescribe water heater inspection, maintenance, replacement, repair to identify, fix, or avoid these malfunctions.

However, homeowners typically have a hard time deciding whether to repair or replace a damaged or inefficient water heater. One of the determining factors is the lifespan (age) of the water heater. Below is a guide on how long you should expect your water heater to last and every necessary detail revolving around the heater’s lifespan, including water heater replacement.

What Is the Life Expectancy of a Water Heater?

Several factors affect a water heater’s life expectancy. Besides its age and the frequency of maintenance, your usage rate and water quality also affect the heater’s life expectancy.

While water heaters can outlast average estimates, homeowners should expect how long their water heaters will last to prepare adequately for a heater replacement.

A traditional water heater (with a tank) has an average 8-12 years lifespan. On the other hand, a tankless water heater can last up to 20 years or more, provided you use and maintain it accordingly. Whichever water heating system you are using, experts recommend considering immediate water heater replacement once your fixture hits or slightly passes the lifespan and is in a questionable state.

Why Do Tankless Water Heaters Last Longer than Traditional Water Heaters?

Due to different reasons, expect a tankless water heater to last longer—8 years plus average—than traditional water heaters. One of the plausible reasons is that a traditional water heater constantly works to maintain hot water temperatures, unlike tankless water heaters, which heat your water only when you need it.

Traditional water heaters feature an anode rod in the tank, which secures the tank’s interior lining. It does this by attracting all corrosive particles to itself via electrolysis. Unfortunately, the anode rod is subject to corrosion. When it erodes beyond the ability to perform typically, the particles settle at the tank’s bottom, where they destroy the tank’s interior lining eventually. At this point, the tankless water heater is nearing or has closed its lifespan.

Tankless water heaters lack the presence and the need for a storage tank. They heat your water on demand. However, even though tankless water heaters don’t have tanks and anode rods, they are also prone to eventual corrosion and will subsequently need immediate water heater replacement.

Factors Affecting Your Water Heater’s Lifespan

Knowing the factors affecting your water heater’s life expectancy helps you make the most out of it and mentally prepare for an eventual water heater replacement. Covenant Plumbing lists these factors and how they impact your water heater system.

  • Installation Quality. A properly-installed water heater has the extra advantage of a few months or years on its average lifespan. Regardless of how top-quality and efficient the water heater is, it will likely develop complications if installed improperly. A professional water heater replacement expert in Normal, IL, is bound by training and acquired skills to consider factors such as insulation, accessibility, ventilation, and building codes compliance when installing a water heater, especially in basements.

  • Build Quality. It is unreasonable to expect a low-quality water heater to last long. Typical of all household appliances and systems you buy, you will get what you pay for. Our water heater replacement team can recommend the best quality water heaters to allow you to enjoy the heater’s full lifespan.

  • Usage. Your water heater’s life expectancy depends a heavy deal on how you use it. Large water quantities magnify the water heater’s workload. Your system will likely malfunction sooner than you expect by putting the heater under constant stress levels. Moreover, proper sizing is vital as part of proper system usage. If you add a few rooms to your existing property, hire a water heater replacement guru to help you upgrade your water heater to match the increased demand for hot water.

  • Maintenance. Regular water heater maintenance goes a long way in avoiding major breakdowns. The less maintenance you order for your water heating system, the closer you come to a complete water heater replacement.

  • Tank Vs. Tankless. As previously stated, expect the tankless water heater to last longer than the regular water heater with a tank. However, when comparing the two, usage matters to ensure you enjoy the system fully. Without proper usage and scheduled regular maintenance, even a traditional water heater may last longer than a tankless water heater.

When Should I Replace My Water Heater?

How do you know when to replace your water heater in Normal? You have tried everything to maximize your water heater’s lifespan, but a water heater replacement is inevitable. Below are signs that you should replace your water heater soon.

  • The heater is old. If your water heater has maxed out its lifespan, you should be looking at getting a new water heater, subject to the presence and intensity of the other signs of failure mentioned below
  • Signs of trouble. Not every water heater problem requires replacement as a solution. That being said, damages to look out for include rusty water, gurgling/rumbling, cold water, or water.

If you notice water pooling around your water heater, chances are your water heater is leaking or has cracks. If the water heater is not producing hot water anymore, it is time to call Covenant Plumbing for a replacement.

Choosing a New Water Heater

When your water heater has maxed out its lifespan and it’s time to replace it, there are a few factors you ought to consider beforehand. These include;

  • Energy efficiency. Check the water heater’s energy efficiency before purchase to maximize cost and energy savings.

  • Type of heater. Every homeowner has their individual preferences for water heater types depending on each water heater’s features.

  • Size of your home. Proper sizing is vital when installing a new water heater. This is to ensure smooth operation and availability of water when needed.

  • Costs. It is advisable to estimate the annual costs of operation for your preferred heater models and compare them with alternative more/less energy-efficient water heater models.

  • Fuel type and availability. Fuel types tie directly into your annual costs and eco-friendliness. Also, consider how easy and affordable the fuel type is since this is a recurring cost.

If You Are Suspicious That You Have Hidden Leaks In Your Home, It Is Best To Consult A Plumber Near Me In | Bloomington, IL

Often, a plumbing system leak is obvious. You might notice that a puddle has formed beneath your sink or on your floor. When plumbing leaks are obvious, you can take steps to contact a plumber near me in Bloomington, IL, to deal with the issue. However, as you may already know, many of the water pipes in your house are located behind walls or under flooring. What happens if one of these pipes suffers a leak? You might not notice for some time. However, there are often signs. Even hidden leaks may show signs that can alert you to a serious plumbing problem. If you have concerns about hidden leaks in your home, contact Covenant Plumbing. We offer a full spectrum of plumbing services, including leak detection and leak repair.

Sagging or Warped Flooring

If you notice that your floor has begun to sag or is warped, there’s a moisture problem. That moisture issue could be because of a hidden leak. Of course, the problem may also be due to water seeping inside from the outside. Moisture can cause floors to sag and warp. If your plumbing system runs in the area of the sagging floor, there may be a leak. The problem will not improve until the moisture problem is fixed. When you contact a plumber near me in Bloomington, IL, you can expect them to locate the leak and make the necessary repair.

Your Water Bill Has Increased

A hidden leak allows water to flow even when your fixtures are turned off. That water has a cost that will be reflected by your water bill. Of course, that cost is going to be magnified by the damage that the water does to your floors or walls. If your water bill has suddenly increased, take steps to investigate the cause. It could be a hidden leak. Look for other signs of leaks around your home. A plumber near me in Bloomington can help you determine if your water bill spikes are caused by a hidden leak.

Mold Spots

If mold spots appear on your wall, it might be a hidden leak. Plumber near me in Bloomington can help you find out. However, there could also be another cause. Mold growth relies on moisture. The mold could be caused by a roof leak. An overflowing toilet, even if it happened once, could cause a mold problem. A hidden leak will generally cause mold to grow quickly. The leak continues to feed the mold problem, which is why the mold spreads fast. Before remediating the mold problem, you’ll have to have the leak repaired.

You Smell Mildew or Must

If you smell an unpleasant odor, there’s a moisture problem. The sudden appearance of a musty odor can indicate the presence of a leak. A plumber near me in Bloomington will be able to pinpoint if you have a hidden leak. Mildew can occur because of other moisture problems too. However, Covenant Plumbing will be able to find out if your mildew and mold problem is caused by a leak.

Ceiling or Wall Discoloration

Water can cause other materials of your home to become discolored. If your ceiling is discolored or there are water spots that have formed, there’s a leak or other moisture problem you need to deal with quickly. Discoloration is only the first problem. Mold will likely develop next if it hasn’t already. The mold may be present behind the wall and yet to make its appearance. A plumber near me in Bloomington can assess the problem and help you locate the source of the moisture issue.

Reduced Water Pressure

If your water pressure is reduced, there’s a reason. Sometimes that reason is a leak. Any time you experience a water pressure interruption, you should contact a plumber near me in Bloomington. Covenant Plumbing can send a trained plumber to your home to investigate the problem.

How Do Plumbers Find Hidden Leaks?

Covenant Plumbing’s plumbers are skilled at leak detection. We can determine if you have a sneaky leak and where it’s located. When our plumber visits your Bloomington, IL, home, they’ll check your plumbing fixtures to ensure that there isn’t a leak associated with them or near them. Plumbers often use headphones and electronic hearing equipment to find hidden leaks. They can use acoustics to determine where your plumbing system’s leak is located. Our plumbers at Covenant Plumbing are skilled leak detectors. We’ll give you an accurate report of your plumbing system. Don’t attempt DIY leak detection or you could allow the issue to become worse. Let a plumber near me in Bloomington find your leak quickly and recommend the ideal fix.

Repairing Hidden Leaks

A hidden leak needs to be repaired right away. Unfortunately, when leaky pipes are located behind walls or under flooring, they must be accessed. When you contact Covenant Plumbing for leak repair, we’ll send a plumber to your location. We can recommend the best way to access pipes with the minimum of disruption. Even so, sometimes portions of wall, ceiling, or flooring must be cut away so that the plumber can replace or repair the broken pipe.

After we make the repair to the pipes, you can make the necessary repairs to your walls or other home features that were disrupted. The process of repairing hidden leaks isn’t always easy, but it’s essential in order to guard against further damage. While inspecting the leaking pipe, your plumber near me in Bloomington can view the other pipes in the vicinity to ensure that they’re in good condition. You may choose to replace other pipes nearby, especially if they’re suffering from corrosion.

6 Bathroom Sink Issues A Plumber Can Fix | Normal, IL

Most people don’t think about their bathroom sink until there’s a problem. But understanding the most common sink issues can help you troubleshoot and fix issues before they become bigger. This article will look at the common bathroom sink problems you can face and how a plumber can help you. Most bathroom sink problems may seem easy to handle, but it is not advisable to fix them because if you don’t have the right tools and skills, you will worsen the issue. Instead, call a plumbing company in Normal, IL, to fix your bathroom sinks.

Bathroom Sink Issues You May Encounter

Slow Drain

clogged or slow drain is another common problem many homeowners face. A slow drain can happen over time, especially if you have poor usage habits and don’t get your drain cleaned regularly. When you call an expert, they will do a video camera inspection to understand the plumbing better. They will recommend a drain cleaning service or something else to solve the slow drain.

If you are thinking of fixing the problem by pouring a drain cleaner down the drain, don’t try. Drain cleaners have toxic chemicals that can cause damage to the plumbing at the bathroom sink or the plumbing further down the line.

plumber will first need to figure out what is causing the blockage to diagnose the problem. Mostly, blockages in the bathroom sink are caused by loose hair or beauty products. The clog can be removed using pliers or fingers if it is not severe. However, a mechanical auger will be needed to remove the blockage if it is severe.

The good thing about plumbers in Normal, IL, is that they will help you find the cause of the clog and come up with a permanent solution. Also, they can advise you on how to prevent it from happening in the future.

Leaking Faucets

A leaking faucet is another bathroom sink problem that requires the help of a professional. Although dripping faucets may look like a minor problem, the truth is they are increasing your water bills. Even if the dripping occurs 5 times a minute, that continuous dripping from the faucet will increase your water bill. So, call a plumbing company today to fix your dripping faucet.

For the professional to repair the faucet, they will first have to figure out what is causing the dripping. The leading causes of a dripping faucet include:

  • An O-ring that is loose or worn out
  • If the dripping is coming from the spout, it could be a corroded valve seat. To prevent the valve seat from corroding, have it cleaned regularly
  • A worn-out cartridge. Find an expert who will do the replacement of the exact match
  • Worn-out seals and washers occur when water sediments accumulate on them
  • Loose packing nuts and rings in the steam crew

A professional can fix all these causes. A plumber can disassemble the faucet to have a better look. Disassembling a faucet is tricky, and you should leave it to experts.

Bad Smells

If you notice your bathroom sinks are producing bad smells, you should call a plumber immediately. If your bathroom drain was installed well, the common cause of the odors could be a microbial infection. The infection might have spread to the sink overflow passage causing foul odors. To develop an actionable plan, your plumbing company will need to do a thorough inspection.

You will have to get rid of the odors because they will worsen with time. Inhaling the odors every day is bad for your health. The recommended treatment is the use of a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Your plumber will pour the solution down the drain and let it rest an entire night. Also, different plumbing services will recommend additional solutions based on how they see their work.

To avoid foul odors in your bathroom sinks, hire a plumbing company regularly for drain cleaning services. Regular cleaning will eliminate the odors and make your bathroom enjoyable. Call a plumber today for regular drain cleaning services.

Weakened Sink Caulking

The other bathroom sink problem you can face is a weakened sink caulking. It could have a negative effect on the sink’s overall condition. You can fix this problem, but it needs a professional plumbing company for the best results. If the caulking is missing or broken, water from the sink can splash out and leak underneath the fixture. Water damage will worsen with time, leading to more problems. Depending on the damage, your plumber can recommend repairs or replacements. If the expert decides to do a replacement, make sure the old caulking is not left behind because it will affect the caulking you add.

Faulty Drain Stopper

A drain stopper is a knob that enables the drain to be opened and closed quickly. If the drain stopper is faulty, the drain might get stuck or on open or closed. Fixing the malfunctioning drain stopper on yourself will be tricky. To solve this problem, call a professional, and they will get the job done correctly.

The malfunctioning drain stopper can be caused by either a loose nut or ring. These parts can be tightened within minutes and have the stopper working again. If the parts are completely worn out, your expert will recommend a new drain stopper mechanism. They will have the new part installed for you, so don’t worry. Once the part is installed, you won’t have to deal with a faulty drain stopper anymore.

Broken Sewer Line? What You And Your Plumber Can Do | Bloomington, IL

As you know, a clogged or broken sewer line will halt the function of your plumbing system. Without a sewer line repair, your home can suffer from sewage backup. A skilled plumber from Covenant Plumbing of Bloomington, IL, can evaluate your sewer line to determine if the problem is a clog or a broken pipe. If you’re experiencing a backup of your drains in your home, you could be experiencing a serious sewer line problem. Here are some things you can do:

What Is Your Sewer Line?

Your home connects to the municipal sewer via a line that runs from it to your home. All the wastewater that leaves your home travels through the sewer line to the main sewer. As the property owner, you are responsible for the line that runs from your home, across your property (underground), to the city sewer. If you have sewage backing up into your home or multiple drains seem slow or clogged, you should suspect a sewer line problem.

Try to Unclog the Drain

When you contact your plumber with a suspected sewer line issue, the first thing they’ll try to do is to unclog the drain. Sewer drain clogs are not uncommon. As with other drains in your home, they can become stopped up with food debris, grease, toilet paper, or other objects that get lodged in the pipe.

Typically, your plumbing service will arrive with a router or mechanical router that will push any lodged items through the line, clearing the pipe for use. Most of these clogs can be removed with a plumber‘s snake. Once the clog is clear, your plumbing system should function properly again.

What About Tree Roots?

A common problem that leads to clogged sewer lines is tree root infiltration. As underground pipes age and begin to suffer cracks and corrosion, tree roots–ever in search of water–can enter the pipe where they will continue to grow. The seams of sewer pipes tend to be the most vulnerable parts of the pipes to tree root infiltration. As the roots continue growing, they will begin to block the sewer line. You may or may not notice that your drains are beginning to run a bit more slowly.

As the roots continue to grow, they can clog the drain, stopping water, toilet paper, and anything else washed down your drains from making their way to the main city sewer. As the clog worsens, the sewage material can back up into your house. Until your plumber can clear the line, your plumbing system will be unusable.

The Clog Won’t Clear

Sometimes your plumber cannot clear the clog. That often indicates that part of the line has collapsed. An experienced plumbing professional can usually tell because their snake will appear to hit a wall. Some plumbing services may run an inline camera through the line to determine the exact nature of the problem and where it’s occurring. When the problem is a broken pipe and not a clog, you’ll need to fix the pipe or replace it.

Evaluate the Damage

Your Bloomington, IL, plumbing professional will investigate the pipe to determine the nature of the damage. Tree roots can cause the pipe to collapse, but so, too, can large clogs. Burrowing pests underground can even cause damage to your sewer line. After assessing the full scope of the damage to your pipes, your plumber can recommend the ideal fix.

Repair or Replace Your Sewer Line

If the damage to your pipe is minimal, your plumbing service might recommend a pipelining repair. To perform this repair, the plumbing professional will insert pipelining into the line. This lining is coated with epoxy. It will act as a liner within the pipe and seal to the pipe. Once the epoxy dries and cures, sealing the crack, the inflated portion of the liner can be removed. This fix should allow your plumbing system to work optimally again.

On the other hand, some sewer line problems are quite severe. In these situations, sections of pipe may need to be replaced, especially if the pipes are old and suffering from corrosion. Talk to your plumber about the trenchless repair. In this case, the repairs can be made through the line again. The old pipe is destroyed while a new pipe is inserted with a trenchless method.

Unfortunately, sometimes the only way to deal with extensive pipe damage is to dig up the property and perform a traditional sewer line replacement. A crew will dig up the old pipes and replace them with new ones. Although this is a costly and invasive method, it will solve the problem. After that, you shouldn’t have sewer line issues because of aging or corrosive pipes. If you sell your home, you can actually market the fact that the entire sewer line has been replaced. That’s definitely a job that new home buyers will be happy to avoid.

We can send an experienced plumbing professional to your home to assess your sewer line problem. If drain cleaning doesn’t solve the issue, we can recommend a solution that will.
